MHS Golf Team to Compete for Class A Team Golf Championship

Senior Blake Marden is confident going into Saturday’s Class A Team Golf Championships at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.

Blake leads a Messalonskee golf team that finished the regular season with an 11-1 record and placed second at the recent KVAC Championships.

“That was tough,” Blake said of the second-place at the conference title match, “but we still have momentum going into states because we didn’t play well and we still lost by only one stroke.”

Blake and fellow senior Jacob Bernatchez have qualified for the Class A Individual State Championships, which will take place the following Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Eagles feature four seniors among their top-6 golfers with Conor Ferguson and Parker Poulin adding to the veteran presence. Brothers Bradley and Brandon Condon (a sophomore and junior respectively) round out the top six.

State golf tournament results are based on the scores for 18 holes of the top four golfers on each team.

Blake expects the toughest competition to come from southern Maine teams, including defending Class A state champion Gorham High School. “We’d like to shoot 320 or less (as a team),” Blake said. He said the team shot 323 in a recent practice session at Natanis.
