MHS Students of the Month – November 2017

Messalonskee senior Lauren Mercier started providing academic support for special education students when she was in third grade and now, almost a decade later, she is still going strong in this respect.

That’s an exceptional quality, and thus it comes as no surprise that Lauren stood on the Performing Arts Center stage this week as one of four students recognized as a November Student of the Month.

“Although 40 hours of community service is the high school requirement, this young lady goes above and beyond what is expected of her,” Messalonskee Principal Paula Callan said of Lauren.

But, then, going above and beyond what is expected could be said of the other three Student of the Month recipients as well. Freshman Taryn Drolet, sophomore Molly Glueck, and junior Autumn Littlefield each exhibit this quality.

Taryn, an active participant in all his classes, also took on a leadership role recently when he helped a substitute teacher by teaming with other classmates to review assignments with the rest of the class.

Molly, meanwhile, displays her deep commitment to the choral and band program by getting to the high school long before classes begin to help set up chairs in a music class with more than 100 students.

As for Autumn, the junior winner, her deep commitment to the field hockey program is one reason she earned a scholarship to play the sport at Boston College. Autumn also is a caring student, a quality she displayed in becoming a member of the school’s anti-harassment committee.

Once again, a Messalonskee student earned honors at Mid-Maine Technical Center as well. Dan Miller was named a Student of the Month at the technical school for his efforts in the precision machining program.
