Lavenson to Compete in the Maine State Poetry Out Loud Finals!
Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation contest in which students must memorize and perform three poems for a panel of judges.
Hanna Lavenson, Messalonskee High School’s Poetry Out Loud winner, competed in and won the Maine Regional Poetry Out Loud competition held at Hampden Academy.
Hanna will be competing in the Maine State Poetry Out Loud Finals on March 20th at the Waterville Opera House AT 3:00 p.m. This event is free to the public.
If Hanna wins the State Finals, she will move on to the National Poetry Out Loud competition in Washington, D.C. where she will compete against 49 other talented students for a grand prize of $20,000 (and $50,000 for MHS).
Hanna will be performing the following poems:
Poem 1: “Epitaph” by Katherine Philips
Poem 2: “Snow Day” by Billy Collins
Poem 3: “idea 20: an evil spirit, your beauty, haunts me still” by Michael Drayton
