MHS Playoff Preview…

Messalonskee athletes will be well represented as state championships in swimming, indoor track, and wrestling take place this weekend while postseason basketball action steps up in earnest today.

The Messalonskee girls begin their quest for a second straight Class A state basketball title when they take on Medomak Valley at 3 p.m. in a Class A North quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center. The Eagles (12-6) are ranked No. 2 while Medomak Valley (11-7) is seeded sixth.

The swimming state finals are scheduled to take place on two separate dates with the boys’ championship Saturday and the girls’ Monday. Both meets are at the University of Maine at Orono with a starting time at 12:30 p.m.

Seventeen Messalonskee swimmers qualified for the state finals. Ethan Burton, Owen Corrigan, Edmund Couture, Cameron Croft, Adam DeWitt, Martin Guarnieri, Max Hopper, Nate Perkins, and Nate Ruel are headed to Orono for the boys. The girls’ team is represented by Kenzie Burton, Paige Dudley, Emilia Frost, Sarah Kohl, Emily Larsen, Olivia Roy, Leah Smith, and Morgan Veilleux.

Messalsonskee indoor track qualified 30 athletes for the Class A state championship Monday at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. Action begins at noon.

The following 16 girls met the state qualifying standard for the girls team: Peyton Arbour, Alexa Brennan, Libby Breznyak, MaKenzie Charest , Emma Concaugh, Lydia D’Amico, Emma Dehetre, Markiana Hewett, Addison Littlefield, Haley Lowell, Lauren Pickett, Megan Quirion, Jacey Richard, Arianna Veilleux, Charlotte Wentworth, and Emma Wentworth.

For the boys’ team, the following 14 boys qualified: Connor Alley, Benjamin Amalfitano, Gabe Bessey, Elijah Caret, Jonathan Christopher, John-Luke Damico, Gabe Katz, Colin Kinney, Daimian Lewis, Will McPherson, Connor Pellerin, Joshua Silvesan, Hunter Smart, and Noah Tuttle.

In wrestling, Austin Pelletier and Jonathon Lujan will represent Messalonskee at the Class A state championships Saturday in Sanford. Pelletier took second and Lujan finished fourth at the regional title meet last week in South Paris.
