MHS Junior Auction

Be prepared for some changes at this year’s Junior Auction, the most notable of which is a change of location from Messalonskee High School to Thomas College in Waterville.

The event, traditionally the Messalonskee junior class’s top fundraiser, takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7. Tickets are $10, a charge that includes a crockpot dinner with salad, beverage, and dessert.

Along with the change in venue, this year’s Junior Auction features live music for the first time in the form of the Messalonskee Jam Club, a group of student musicians who will perform during the dinner and silent auction.

Kami Dexter, who advises the Junior Class with fellow teacher Julie Kohl, said the goal is to raise at least $15,000 through the auction. That money goes toward Project Graduation, the class event or activity that follows graduation each year at Messalonskee. Dexter said the Junior Class is hoping to raise $30,000 to $40,000 for Project Graduation.

“We have not decided what the Project Grad money will be used for at this point,” Dexter explained. “ Once we have had the auction and the prom we will start discussing our options.”

One aspect of the Junior Auction that remains the same is a wealth of outstanding prizes. Among this year’s most intriguing items are a 7-Day Bar Harbor getaway and tickets to Red Sox games, whitewater rafting outings, and G-Force Laser Tag sessions. In addition, the bidders can vie for a $2,000 gift certificate for the New England Golf and Tennis Club in Belgrade.
