MHS Students of the Month – April 2018

Each month Messalonskee High School celebrates a group of outstanding students in its Student of the Month ceremony. Given this situation, some might think that exemplary students might be harder to find by the end of the school year. Not so. The April assembly made clear that the high school still has a wealth of worthy students deserving of recognition.

Freshman Emma Parrish, sophomore Alexa Brennan, junior Clayton Hoyle, senior Tyler Pellerin, and Student Choice Award winner Chloe Tilley each contribute significantly to the school and community in his or her own way.

Take, for example, Pellerin, a highly motivated student and athlete, who brings a calm and polite attitude to the classroom and competes year-round as runner, participating in cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track. Moreover, he somehow finds time to volunteer after school to help the running program at Belgrade Central School.

Hoyle, the junior recipient, heads the Messalonskee Jam Club, a group of student musicians who recently provided entertainment at the Junior Auction. A student who aims for academic excellence both at Messalonskee and at Mid-Maine Technical Center, Hoyle is known for his positive and hardworking attitude.

Sophomore winner Brennan is an interesting blend: she seeks out leadership positions but, according to her nominating teacher, has no desire to receive recognition for her efforts. Instead, she simply does what she deems right and necessary. Brennan’s calm and pleasant demeanor masks her determination to succeed.

Freshman winner Parrish also influences the classroom atmosphere in a positive way as she uses her quiet, reflective ways to inspire classmates to think critically and carefully about both their own views and the perspective of others around the world. She is compassionate about classmates and active in the community as well.

Tilley, the Student Choice recipient, has earned a reputation for her friendly ways, a person who compliments others on a regular basis, bringing an uplifting quality to the school on a daily basis.

Messalonskee once more had several students who earned Mid-Maine Technical Center Student of the Month honors. This month the following five were recognized: Thomas Laplante, information technology; Morgan Veilleux, medical careers; Noah Cummings, construction technology; Derrick Butler, mass media communication; and Austin Arsenault, career and technical education.
