Principal’s Pen: May 28th-June 1st

Well it’s that time of year when electricity is in the air. The seniors are excited for graduation, the underclassmen are looking forward to the YES program and summer is just around the corner.
Last Friday we held our May Student of the Month Assembly and the following students were recognized for their academic achievements as well as community service. The Freshman Student of the Month is Trent Thompson, Sophomore Student of the Month is Sarah Lowell, Junior Student of the Month is Leah Smith, and the Senior Student of the Month is CJ Scamman. It is worth noting that CJ has accumulated 800 hours of community service over his four years here at MHS. This is an accomplishment that both CJ and the school community is very proud of. Colby Doone was recognized as the MMTC Student of the Month in the Precision Machining Program. And finally, Eli Ross was the recipient of the Students Choice Award. Eli, along with his family, completed a mission in Guatemala, helping the citizens there rebuild a school and shelter.
As many of you are aware we are moving forward with the athletic complex project. This means that beginning June 25th the entire campus will be closed down. All summer camps, summer school, and other activities will take place at various locations throughout the community. The main office and guidance office will remain open and should you need to come into the building for an appointment we ask that you enter the main entrance as all other areas will be closed off.
This Sunday marks the beginning of Graduation activities. Baccalaureate will be held this Sunday, June 3rd at 2:00 pm. Following this non-denominational service the senior video will be shown, a reception will follow for all seniors and their guests. Closing out this day will be the awarding of academic awards and scholarships. On Monday we kick off marching practice at 8:00 am. Attendance at all practices is mandatory. Caps/gowns will be given out on Tuesday along with the tickets to floor seating at the ACC.
