MHS PLAYOFF PREVIEW…

The final playoff stretch gets underway this week for Messalonskee sports teams, a final opportunity to culminate the school year with a state championship.

Action starts Wednesday (June 6) when both the baseball and softball teams open their postseason bids with Class A North quarterfinal games.

In softball, the fourth-ranked Eagles (9-7) hosts fifth-seeded Edward Little (9-7) at 4 p.m. Messalonskee beat Edward Little, 4-2, during the regular season.

The baseball team  (8-8), ranked eighth, faces a huge challenge on the road in taking on No. 1 Bangor (15-1) at 4:15 p.m. The Rams are the four-time defending Class A state champion.

Both boys’ and girls’ lacrosse open the playoffs Saturday with Class B quarterfinal matches.

The No. 4 Messalonskee girls (8-4) host fifth-seeded Biddeford (10-2) at 2 p.m. at Thomas College in Waterville. The Eagles, who won the state title two years ago, did not face Biddeford in the regular season.

In their season opener, the Messalonskee boys crushed Camden Hills, 15-4. Now, two months later, the fourth-ranked Eagles (7-5) meet the No. 5 Windjammers (8-4) again at 11 a.m. at Thomas College.
