MHS Students of the Month – September 2018

Kindness proved to be the theme for the first Student of the Month ceremony of the 2018-19 school year. Principal Paula Callan mentioned that attribute in describing each student recognized on the stage of the Performing Arts Center.

Callan used words such as warmth and positive energy in reading the nomination descriptions for freshman Kimberly Spears, sophomore Lilly Wilkey, junior Ella Nash, senior Edin Sisson, and Student Choice Award recipient Kaitlyn Berthiaume.

Kimberly also was noted for bringing new ideas and resources to the classroom on a regular basis, as well as working with administrators and teachers to start a Dungeons and Dragons Club for the school.

Sophomore Lilly is known for being polite, respectful, and helpful in the classroom – not to mention extremely committed to her academic responsibilities. “She is one of those students,” Callan said, “who really listens, focuses, and pays attention through the entire class period.”

Ella, the junior winner, is another student who helps to foster a comfortable, supportive environment in the classroom. Her nominating teacher described her as an “exceptional student who approaches each class period as an opportunity to both give and receive ideas.”

Along with bringing kindness and warmth to the classroom, senior recipient Edin was noted for her passion for writing and being a writer who is “hardworking and thoughtful.”

Kaitlyn, the Student Choice Award selection, was described as a person who will do anything for classmates. She gained state-wide attention recently for having the courage to be the lone member of the Messalonskee Cheerleading program.

Librarian Sylvia Jadczak announced Daimian Lewis as the winner of the new school year’s first “Get Caught Reading” award. Winners get a free book for being recognized.
