MHS Students of the Month – December 2018

The diversity of excellence among the Messalonskee High School student body took center stage just before the Christmas break as the school honored its December Student of the Month candidates in the Performing Arts Center.

Freshman Reese Gardner, sophomore Logan Alexander, junior Toni Holz, senior Morgan Knowles, and Students’ Choice Award winner Dharani Singaram each have distinctive strengths and qualities.

Reese, for example, exhibits remarkable maturity for a freshman. Along with excelling academically, he represents his class as a member of the MHS leadership team and still finds time to compete on the Messalonskee basketball team. In addition, he has managed to develop strong relationships with students at all grade levels.

Sophomore recipient Logan is another one who balances multiple responsibilities successfully. Academics is a particular strength for Logan as she has maintained an A average in all her courses this semester. At the same time, she is a two-sport athlete as well as a student who makes a point to advocate for herself and seek clarification whenever she is not clear about a lesson or concept.

For Toni, the junior winner, resilience is the quality that stands out. Despite facing a great deal of adversity in her life, she doesn’t hesitate to take challenging courses. Moreover, she has placed in both the shot put and discus in competing in the Junior Paralympics.

Time management is clearly a strength for senior Morgan. Morgan strives not just to complete all her assignments but to finish them before the actual due date. And she takes this approach to the classroom despite having to juggle her academic responsibilities with extracurricular and job commitments.

Dharani, the Students’ Choice Award recipient, is quiet in demeanor but her accomplishments as a leader in the music department speak loud and clear about her efforts as a singer and mentor within the Messalonskee arts community. She also happens to be a gifted and hardworking student in the classroom.

Finally, Messalonskee is once more well represented in the Mid-Maine Technical Center Student of the Month selections as Emma DiGirolamo (medical careers), Nathan Bacon (CTE Academy), and Nicolas Fontaine (criminal justice) received recognition.
