Principal’s Pen: April 30-May 3

Happy Spring, Finally!

We are nearing the home stretch and things are getting pretty busy here at MHS. Our AP students will begin their testing next week, seniors are gearing up for graduation and the underclassmen have made their YES selections.

For those of you who are parents of seniors I have attached a copy of the end of year calendar. There was a senior packet that was mailed out the week we returned from April break. Should you not have received it by now please let us know and we will send you another one. Senior Calendar(2)

I have also attached the end of year calendar for the underclassmen. Underclassmen Calendar The last day for students in grades 9-11 will be June 19th. That will be a half day and the buses will pick up the students at noon time.

There will be an Early Release Day on May 21st followed by Spring Fling on May 22nd. This year during Spring Fling we will dedicate the yearbook to the staff member that the seniors have chosen, we will be performing community service around our campus, and end the day with activities sponsored by the classes as well as teachers. Lets hope for warm and sunny weather!

This morning we started the day with our Student of the Month Assembly. The following students were recognized for their achievements. The Freshman Student of the Month is Xavier Colfer, the Sophomore Student of the Month is Zack Bean, the Junior Student of the Month is Ethan Burton, and the Senior Student of the Month is Gabe Denbow. We had 4 students selected as MMTC Students of the Month in their programs: Electrical Technology- Taylor Edman, Criminal Justice-Jimmy Lemelin, Mass Media Communications-Molly Milligan, and CTE Academy-CJ Sudsbury. Each year the Portland Sea Dogs organization partners with Maine schools to recognize those students who have shown academic and/or personal growth over the year. This year we are very please to recognize Aaron Willoughby, Lexi Pearce, Corey Smith, Charlie Towle, and Ethan Burton. We are certainly proud of all that these young men and women have accomplished this year.

As we move through the budget process this year I would like to extend an invitation to you to attend one of the community meetings. Your voice matters in this process and I know that Mr. Gartley would appreciate any feedback that you may have.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the graduation activities as well as the extra-curricular events that will be taking place over the next month and a half.

Enjoy the week

Paula
