MHS Library Lunch Forum Series

Messalonskee High School will again be hosting the Library Lunch Forum series this year. The purpose of the forum is to provide students the opportunity to discuss an issue of interest in a respectful environment. All of these events will be student-led.

The first forum was held this past Tuesday, October 8th, on the selected topic“Should the High School Start Time Be Changed?”

Austin Garrett and Sami Benayad moderated the discussion. Most of the attendees mentioned studies that report how sleeping in benefits high school aged students. Others stated that a later school day would negatively impact after school activities – especially athletics – and student work schedules.  They said it would also have a negative impact on parents who drive their children to school on the way to work.

Future topics for discussion include “How Can Our School Be More Green?”, which is scheduled for October 29, and “How Can Our School Be More Inclusive?”  to be held at a later date.
