Senior Update 4/2/20

April 2, 2020

Hello Seniors:

First let me say that we miss you here at MHS! We recognize that under normal circumstances this time of the year can be very stressful. Add the COVID-19 virus to the picture and I bet you’re feeling like your world was turned upside down. Please know that we are working very hard to make sure that we are able to celebrate your accomplishments at the end of the year. I would caution you that things will probably look a little different and the timing of when these events may take place will also be different. All is contingent upon when we come back to school and what the direction is from the Governor as well as the CDC.

Last night I asked the School Board to consider two plans that will impact the end of the year for seniors. These plans speak directly to grades, credits and graduation. You will find the proposals outlined below:

Plan A: If we return sometime in May we will pick up where we left off, still require 30 credits, waive community service, no final exam and the semester grade will now become an extended quarter 3 grade

Plan B: If we do not return we will reduce the credits to 25, waive community service,

close semester 2 grades based on what they were on March 13th and record either a pass/fail, there would be no grades for semester 2 averaged into the GPA or class rank

Mr. Dunbar, Mr. McLaughlin and I have looked at every senior transcript to make sure that no one would be adversely affected by either plan. We are confident that anyone who was on track to graduate in June would still be able to under either Plan A or B.

On Tuesday, April 7th at 10:00 we will be holding a Zoom meeting for seniors. Mr. Dunbar will be sending out an invite via email so be on the look-out for his email. The purpose of this meeting is to share with you some of our ideas around senior celebrations and answer any questions that you may have.

Finally, we are sponsoring a virtual Spirit Week beginning next Monday. Below is what is planned for each day. We ask that you send in a photo of yourself and/or family participating in each day’s outfit. We will be posting these photos on the website and Facebook as well as tweeting them out. We will be doing daily drawings from the photos that have been submitted. We thought this would be a fun way to break up the week and to build in a little fun to your day. We hope that many of you will participate.

Monday: Summer Fun/Hawaiian Day

Tuesday: Favorite Sports Team

Wednesday: Super Hero, in honor of the medical professionals

Thursday: Maine-ah Day

Friday: Eagle Pride Day

Enjoy the day and we’ll see you on April 7th

Ms. Callan
