Principal’s Pen: September 28th-October 2nd

Happy Fall:

We feel very fortunate to have four weeks of school behind us and that things are going relatively well. In the event of inclement weather we practiced an inside transition time. All things considered it went pretty smoothly. We have to work on a couple of areas where there is a little bit of clogging up but the students did a great job of trying to social distance themselves from those in front of them. I am sure it felt a little uncomfortable for everyone but we hope that if we find ourselves having to go to this mode of transitioning that they will find it less challenging the more we use it. It is our intent to keep students outside as much as possible but please note that if there is a heavy rain or snow storm we will keep the students inside. We also have designated several areas for students to wait in the morning should the weather be bad. Those areas are the library, cafeteria, PAC, and gym. If at all possible we would ask that on those days students not be dropped off any earlier than 7:30 am.

Parent/Teacher conferences are taking place on October 7th (5:00-8:00) and October 8th (3:00-6:30). All conferences this fall will take place virtually. We will open the sign-up portal on Monday, September 28th at 8:00 am. You will notice that there is a space to indicate whether or not you would prefer a google meeting or a phone call. If you select google meets the teacher with whom you are meeting with will send you an invite via email to attend that meeting. This is the first time we have tried to do virtual meetings so please let us know if there are any glitches on your end when signing up. Here is the link to use: http://MHS Parent/Teacher Sign Ups 2020

You will find two attachments with this email. The first one is for all remote learners and it is an explanation of how to download a mobile app for tagging (I am having difficulty uploading this information so I will email all the remote learners with the directions). All other students will get the same information in advisory on Wednesday. The second attachment is for seniors who are remote. On October 14th all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be taking the PSATs. The seniors have the option of doing virtual college visits, working on their college applications and/or essays, job shadowing, working, or completing their community service hours. We need them (all seniors) to complete the form and return it to the office no later than October 9th. For those students who will be testing and wish to be dismissed at the end of the session they must bring in a note to Mrs. Dube requesting that they be released at the end of testing (which should be around noon) as we will not be calling into classrooms to be dismissing students. We will have periods 1, 2, and 3 that day after lunch but they will be shortened periods.

We thank you for your continuing support. Should you or your student(s) run into any issues that require our attention please do not hesitate to reach out at your earliest convenience.

Enjoy the week
