The postseason tips off for Messalonskee basketball teams tonight!
The postseason tips off for Messalonskee basketball teams beginning tonight when the girls’ squad faces Lawrence at 4 p.m. in a Class A North quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center.
Tomorrow, the Messlonskee boys take the court at 9 p.m. at the Civic Center in a quarterfinal contest against Nokomis.
The sixth-seeded Messalonskee girls, 5-13, lost twice to third-ranked Lawrence, 15-3, during the regular season, falling 53-27 in the first encounter and 63-48 in the rematch earlier this month.
For the ninth-ranked Messalonskee boys, 4-15, the challenge is even greater. Nokomis, 17-1, is the top seed and comes into the tournament with a 16-game winning streak, its last victory coming against the Eagles, 70-45.
But the Messalonskee boys enter the tournament with momentum, having won two straight, including a 54-45 win against Gardiner in a preliminary game earlier this week.
The Eagles had lost twice to Gardiner during the regular season, both times by double-digit deficits, an indication that Messalonskee is a team on the rise.
Tickets for the games are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Masks are required for all spectators at the Civic Center.
