Messalonskee boys’ basketball team enters the postseason

Riding a seven-game winning streak, including victories over the two top-seeded teams in Class A, the Messalonskee boys’ basketball team enters the postseason as arguably the hottest team in the regional tournament.

The No. 3 Eagles, 14-4, open the playoffs against six-seeded Cony, 7-11,  in a quarterfinal matchup at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center.

Messalonskee beat the Rams twice during the regular season, winning by more than a 20-point margin on each occasion.

Those wishing to attend tournament games need to be aware that the Maine Principals’ Association (MPA) is using a cashless admission system – only debit or credit cards can be used.

Tickets can be purchased at the Civic Center or online by using the  QR code below:

Eagles haven’t lost a game in more than a month, their last defeat coming against No. 4 Nokomis on Jan. 11. Nokomis prevailed that night 55-52.

Messalonskee’s hot streak started with a narrow 59-56 victory against Camden Hills, and the Eagles went on to add double-digit triumphs over No. 1 Hampden Academy and No. 2 Mt. Blue.
