Empty Bowls, an annual tradition at Messalonskee High School for decades, returns Friday 3/27/26!

Empty Bowls, an annual tradition at Messalonskee High School for decades, returns today, offering simple meals centered on homemade soups served in ceramic bowls created at the high school.

The event runs 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Cost is $10 per person, and that charge entitles diners to both the meal and the bowl used to serve the soup.

As always, proceeds from the event go to fund area food banks, a cause that has grown alarmingly in recent years.

According to the Maine Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation & the Future, the food insecurity rate in Maine is nearly at 14 percent, a percentage that means almost 200,000 people in the state face going hungry on a regular basis.

In addition to the food and the bowl, the Empty Bowls dinner features a silent auction and a raffle.
