Principal’s Pen: March 1-5
Hello Everyone:
We find ourselves approaching the one year mark when life as we knew it took a sudden turn. I am feeling very optimistic that we are moving in the right direction and that this spring will look very different than it did last year.
As parents of senior students I know that you have many questions around the possibility of holding some, if not all, of the traditional senior events. I am hopeful that we might see an increase in the number of people who can gather socially so that we could offer a senior prom for just the seniors, that we could hold our graduation at the Civic Center and that our awards ceremony could take place in person rather than virtually. I have been meeting with the senior class officers and their advisors bi-weekly to talk about these events as well as other activities that they would like to offer to their classmates. As we did last year we will have a Plan A (Civic Center) and a Plan B (MHS) for graduation. As soon as we know what the definitive plan is we will get that information out to you as well as your student(s) as soon as possible. Please know that whatever plan we put into place our sole intent is to make this celebration be as personal as possible.
We have begun to do little things here at the school to celebrate the Class of 2021 and I have attached a few pictures to share with you. Over the next couple of months I may be reaching out to parents to help out with a couple of ideas that I have. Celebrating our seniors Graduation Countdown
I would like to recognize the following students for their recent accomplishments:
Myles Hammond- scored his 100th goal in Ice Hockey!
Jadyn Arnold- broke the 100 backstroke record with a time of 55.1 seconds
Logan Holinger- was recently selected to Mid-Maine Youth Orchestra
MHS Drama students- successfully performed their winter play, Tuck Everlasting
February Students of the Month- (gr. 9) Brady Brunelle, (gr. 10) Breanna Carmona, (gr. 11) Brooklyn Kelly, and (gr. 12) Tim Hatt
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held virtually March 16th (5:00-8:00) and 18th (3:00-6:30). The link for signing up can be found on the high school website and it will be open at 8:00 am on March 7th. If you run into any glitches please reach out to Kathy Pettengill in the guidance office.
In closing I would like to say thank you for your support and patience throughout these last seven months. You have raised incredible young men and women and they, in turn, have shown us how to face adversity with patience, flexibility and forgiveness. We are very fortunate to live and teach in a community who values the importance of education and entrusts their students to us each and every day.
Let’s hope that March exits as a lamb and that the spring is filled with hope and sunlight.
Enjoy the day
Paula
