MHS Players Present: Hush Little Celia, Don’t Say a Word

Messalonskee drama coach John Logan is getting the word out about Hush Little Celia, Don’t Say a Word. Thursday morning in an interview on the Messalonskee News YouTube channel, Logan expanded extensively about the student production that opens at 7 p.m. Friday at the Messalonskee Performing Center.

The comedy, the latest Messalonskee Players’ show, will also be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free for students and $5 for adults.

As the title suggests, the play focuses on Celia, a student who to the puzzlement of her teachers and anger of her father chooses not to speak.  Enter Todd, a classmate who manages to convince Celia to get the words out by making use of a variety of unorthodox methods.

Logan, in the Messalonskee News interview, describes Hush Little Celia as distinct from previous Messalonskee Players  productions (She Kills Monsters and  The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) under his guidance. The previous plays, he said, were period pieces set many decades or centuries ago. In contrast, Hush Little Celia, he said, concerns today’s world and is more realistic in nature.
