Good Afternoon:

We have settled into a “regular” 5 day week. Last week was both exciting and exhausting for staff and students as we celebrated Homecoming. While homecoming was relatively early this year I believe it exposed the freshmen to what true school spirit means at MHS. The hallways celebrated all that is MHS and each day’s attire allowed students and staff to express their “fun” personalities.

There are several opportunities for students to get involved with leadership programs outside of MHS. For those students who have an interest in government and how it works there is an opportunity for them to learn the inner works of such an institution by participating in the Maine YMCA Youth and Government program. Students will participate directly in a simulation of the democratic process.

Another opportunity for students is the Quiz Show program offered by Maine Public Television. Teams of 4 from Maine High Schools compete against other schools in a televised quiz show. The winner of each game will move on to play in the next round. The team that wins will receive a $1,000.00 check and $500.00 will be awarded to the runners up.

And finally, the Maine Youth Leadership Day, is October 27th at Hyde School. This is an opportunity for future Maine leaders (our youth) to come together for a day and explore leadership development. Many of our students have participated in this activity and have reported that they enjoyed the experience.

If any student is interested in any of these events I would invite them to swing in and see me. I have also posted these programs outside the main office for the students to read about.

The athletic complex project is moving right along. The first layer of asphalt has been put down and we should see the turf be installed this week. Installation and other projects are moving right along and appear to be on schedule (thanks in part to the weather cooperating).

The portal for Parent/Teacher Conferences will open up at 8:00 am on September 26th. If you experience any difficulty scheduling conferences please reach out to Darcy York in our guidance department. The direct number to reach her at is 465-4989, ext. 4519. If you are concerned about your student’s grade please feel free to reach out to the teacher prior to the conferences.

Below I have attached information regarding the need for substitutes in our district. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a substitute in our district I encourage you to read the attached memo and reach out to us if you have any questions.

Thank you for your continued support of our students. Enjoy the week.
