Principal’s Pen: November 11-15

Good Afternoon:

It’s hard to believe that we have already had our first snow day of the season. Let’s hope that they are few and far between.

In light of what happened last week I thought it was important to share with you our protocol for investigating such events.

  • Police are notified
  • The student is removed, searched and secured
  • The administration works in collaboration with the local police to investigate what took place
  • Appropriate students and staff are interviewed
  • Parents of the student are notified and they either come to the school or the police go to their home, or both
  • The administration takes guidance and direction from law enforcement officials to determine if there is an ongoing threat to staff and students
  • The parents of all students are notified when the investigation is complete and we have a clear picture of the facts
  • The administration makes decisions based on recommendations from the police as to the ability to hold school and/or continue classes

A few of you reached out with concerns and/or suggestions for how to proceed if future incidences like this should happen again. We sincerely thank you for your feedback and will continue to improve our communication. Please know that no one at the high school would knowingly place any student or staff member in harm’s way. We will continue to make our school as safe we can and ensure that our students feel safe.

If you kept your son/daughter home on Thursday and did not call into the office to let us know would you please take a few minutes to do so. We want to make sure that everyone who was out that day is marked Absent Excused.

In looking ahead to next week our drama department will be performing The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The show will run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night (Nov.21-23) beginning at 7:00 pm. A Sunday performance (Nov. 24) will held starting at 2:00 pm. We hope you are able to see one of these performances as the students have been rehearsing since late summer. The Robotics Craft Fair will be held Saturday, November 23rd. Here is an opportunity to get a start on your holiday shopping.

Report cards will be handed out in advisory this week. If you have not seen your son’s/daughter’s report card by Friday please let us know and we will be happy to mail a copy home to you.

Enjoy the week

Paula
