Messalonskee volleyball team hosting Yarmouth – Class B Quarterfinal Game
In the last and only time the Messalonskee volleyball team faced Yarmouth during the regular season, the Eagles suffered a close 3-2 loss. Tomorrow the Eagles get a chance to avenge that defeat when they host Yarmouth in a Class B quarterfinal match.
The game is scheduled for 10 a.m.
The volleyball team is the only Messalonskee squad that earned a home game in what is the start of the fall playoff season.
Early next week the field hockey and boys’ soccer teams will be on the road for the opening round in their respective tournaments.
Back in early September, the Messalonskee volleyball team started its season in fine fashion by beating Gardiner, the top ranked school in Class C.
The Eagles went on to win six of their next seven matches in soaring to a 7-1 record. Their lone loss in that time was in a tight battle with Yarmouth. Messalonskee won the first set in that contest, dropped the second and third sets, rallied to win the fourth set and then fell 15-8 in the decisive fifth set.
Messalonskee ended the regular season 1-5, but that record is deceptive. The Eagles faced many of the top volleyball teams during that stretch, including Washington Academy, the second-seeded school in Class B, twice.
The Eagles have a chance to get back on a winning track when they take the court in their rematch with Yarmouth.
