The Eagles hope to keep postseason aspirations alive for Messalonskee fall sports

Six weeks ago, the Messalonskee football team edged Skowhegan 33-28 for its first victory of the season. Tonight the Eagles hope to repeat that success as they host the River Hawks in a Class B North quarterfinal game.

Kick off is 7 p.m. Admission is $4 per adult, $2 for students/seniors.

Fifth-ranked Skowhegan (3-5) comes into the contest with momentum, riding a two-game winning streak with triumphs against Brunswick and Mt. Blue.

The reverse is true for No. 4 Messalonskee (3-5). The Eagles are coming off two straight defeats, losses to Leavitt and Lawrence.

The Eagles also hope to keep postseason aspirations alive for Messalonskee fall sports. So far the field hockey, volleyball, and boys’ and girls’ soccer teams have all lost and been eliminated from the postseason.

On the individual level, three members of the Messalonskee cross country team have qualified for the state championship meet Saturday at Cony High School in Augusta: Lexington Cote and Ethan Fortie for the boys, and Alexandria McDonough for the girls.

The boys’ race is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the girls at 11:40.
