MHS Arts take center stage
The performing arts take center stage at Messalonskee High School in the final stretch before Christmas break.
It starts Friday night at 7 when the Messalonskee Players open the three-day run of It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at the Messalonskee Performing Arts Center (PAC).
Based on the Frank Capra movie, which has become a beloved holiday favorite for many, the play puts a new spin on the story of George Bailey, the good guy stifled and depressed by his obligations to the family business that prevent him from pursuing his ambitions and trap him to staying in his home town.
As the title suggests, George’s story is told in the form of a live radio play replete with commercials, microphones, and other features of a 1940s radio station.
The play also can be seen at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students. Senior citizens and children 11 and younger get in free.
The music department gets its turn in the spotlight a few days later with its annual holiday band and chorus concert starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17.
