Messalonskee High School will serve as playoff central over a three-day period beginning Thursday, Nov. 2, and the Eagles have two teams that could emerge one step closer to a state title once action ends.

The Messalonskee field hockey team gets the opportunity first when the Eagles host long-time rival Skowhegan in the Class A North championship match at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Veterans Field.

The Eagles’ game is the last of three regional title tilts scheduled at Veterans Field the same day. In the other contests, Belfast faces Cony in the Class B North finals at 3:30 p.m., and Dexter battles Foxcroft Academy in the Class C North championship at 5:30 p.m.

Second-ranked Messalonskee (10-4) split its two games against top-seeded Skowhegan (13-1) during the regular season, winning 2-1 at home and losing 1-0 on the road.

Two days later, the Messalonskee football team gets its turn at playoff glory when the second-seeded Eagles host No. 3 Cony at 5 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Field.

Messalonskee beat the Rams 39-21 in the lone regular-season clash between the two Class B teams. The winner of Saturday’s contest advances to the regional finals.

Tickets for the MPA-sanctioned field hockey games are $10 per adult and $5 for students and seniors (65 or older). Tickets can be purchased at the field or through the MPA website (mpa.cc).

Tickets for Saturday’s football game are available at the field and are $5 per person.
