MHS STUDENTS OF THE MONTH – JUNE 2018

They are three students who exemplify the work ethic and habits that lead to academic success. No surprise, then, that junior Jillian Pino, sophomore Connor McCurdy, and freshman Kristen Dube are the latest Students of the Month, recognized in the final assembly of the school year.

Kristen, known for her positive attitude and contagious smile, typically gets her assignments completed early, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she is done. In her drive for excellence, Kristen often will revise her work to make it even better.

Connor is much like Kristen in that he strives for excellence in the classroom. To improve his writing, Connor does not hesitate to seek extra help from his teachers. He also makes sure to communicate with them on a regular basis to ensure he understands fully the expectations of each assignment.

Jillian, praised as a thoughtful and considerate student, played an important role as a member of the Greenhouse Club. When teacher Beth Prelgovisk, the Greenhouse Club advisor, was out Jillian took the initiative to keep the greenhouse running smoothly. In the classroom, Jillian made clear she cared about her learning, establishing high goals and acting responsibly at all times.

The previous week recent graduates Robin McCarthy-O’Flaherty and Kayla Begin were honored as Students of the Month in the annual Senior Last Assembly – Kayla earned her recognition as the Student Choice selection.

Robin proved to me an outstanding all-around student, one who excelled academically, participated in theater, and competed on the Math Team. As for Kayla, she earned a reputation as a friendly, supportive student who brought a positive energy to Messalonskee High School on a daily basis.
